Ohio Bankers' Day Reception
Ohio Bankers' Day
CBAO took a group of Ohio community bankers to Washington, DC March 10-11, 2010 to meet with federal regulatory agencies and members of Congress to make their voices heard on several pending issues. Timing could not have been better as Congress was debating many legislative matters that are of concern to the community banking industry. The creation of the proposed Consumer Financial Protection Agency was a main topic of discussion. Community bankers told lawmakers that they have many concerns as to where the agency would be housed, and that community banks must continue to be examined by their own agencies, not a new consumer agency. The bankers also stressed that the proposed CFPA legislation must include regulation of non-bank entities. Community bankers took the opportunity to discuss regulatory structure, sections of the 404-B Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002, and expansion of credit union lending authority.
